28-Day Scripture Memory Challenge

“Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.” -Psalm 119:11

Many of us who call ourselves Christians, we attend church, sing songs, read our Bible, & pray. Some of us, who call ourselves Christians, do these things regularly…some do them sparingly. What if, one day, our freedom to worship, our freedom of religion, what if one day that was taken away? What if, one day, we were not allowed to have a Bible (on paper or electronic)? Would we be able to keep true to the above verse? Would we have God’s Word written on our heart, to sustain us, when we didn’t have much access any other way? I know I would struggle with this. I can quote you a few verses here & there, but if I truly say I believe what I believe, why don’t I know His Word like the back of my hand? If I say I believe this book I read, & the God who wrote it, shouldn’t I know what it says? Ultimately, it’s not about legalism & memorizing scripture to be a “good Christian,” but so that when the time & need arises, I will be prepared & have His Word ready on my heart to sustain me or bring hope to someone in need.

0127171433So…take this month to do that. I have added some encouraging scriptures below that you can memorize this month. Try to memorize one each day, then on the next day, review back over the ones you’ve already memorized to keep them fresh & ready on your heart. Write them on note cards if you have to, or find an app on your phone that can help you memorize them…just LEARN it! I’ll check back in at the end of the month. Find a friend to do this with & challenge each other throughout the month. And please, don’t feel like you have to memorize the ones below…these are just some I find encouraging & faith-building. Honestly, I will add more as I go even beyond this month because the Bible is filled, from front to back, with encouragement & hope…& they can’t all fit in 28 days. Happy memorizing!
