One Theme for 2017: GROW

It’s New Year’s Day. I’m not a super huge fan of specific New Year’s Resolutions, but I am all for setting generic goals I can hit throughout the year & then try to make a plan-of-action to reach my goals during the year. I’m not a fan of super specific goals/resolutions because once you mess up it makes it harder to keep going. My generic goals leave room for my humanity & give grace to pick back up when I’m reminded I’ve dropped the ball. And for me, most times my goals for the year can be summed up with 1 word. This year…that word is GROW.

What do I want to grow, you ask? Have I decided to become a farmer? No… I just want to GROW!

I want to…

  • Grow in my relationship with the Lord through prayer, Bible study, & discipleship from wiser women than myself.
  • Grow in my relationship with my sweet husband.
  • Grow in my friendships by listening more & talking less.
  • Grow in discipline, organization, & health.
  • Grow through more reading & less TV (officially made it to 16 books in 2016, now I need to push for at least 20!)
  • Grow through more writing throughout the year.
  • Grow my knowledge & experience in my career so I can always do my best, better serve those I work with, & continue to advance upwards.
  • Grow my Mary & Martha business.

There are so many ways a person can grow and I am excited to see how God grows & stretches me this year. All of these aspects of growth I want to see in my life are pretty generic, but if I want to see them carried out, I have to constantly remind myself of my goals throughout the year & establish some sort of plan-of-action that will help lead to success…and then I have to focus on the “action” part.

In 2016, one thing I found helpful in reaching my goals was writing them down on a piece of 8.5 x 11 printer paper, putting that in a frame, & hanging it in my office right over my work desk so I would see it every time I worked. It helped. During the times I became more relaxed it was a wake-up reminder to keep going & start fresh on my goals.

What are your goals for yourself this year? What are you going to do to make those goals become successful?
